Riia kaupmehe Leonhard Otto Ecki ja tema abikaasa Charlotte Concordia (snd. Sprost) poeg. Sai esmase hariduse Riia kubermangugümnaasiumis, seejärel õppis Tartu ülikoolis arstiteadust 1860–1867. Suri tudengina Liivimaal Cēsise (Võnnu) kreisis Lenči raudteejaamas (Station Lenzenhof). Maetud (▭ vkj. 23. III 1867) Riiga. Tema mälestuseks asutati Sprosti stipendium. Viljakas luuletaja.
