Applying for DOI

The system of DOIs is an internationally acknowledged and supported standard which is maintained by the International DOI Foundation (IDF). The Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which are used for unambiguous identification of an object (physical or digital) in the digital environment.

In Estonia, research data are registered via the research institutions which have joined the DataCite Estonia Consortium. The University of Tartu is a member of DataCite. For consultation, a representative of a research group working at the UT should contact the data librarians of the UT Library and/or the DataCite Estonia administrator. More information can be found on datacite.ut.ee.

Researcher should take the following steps:

  1. Arrange your research data
  2. Create metadata for the dataset
  3. Find a data centre which meets your needs (subject-based or institutional). UT researchers can use the research data repository DataDOI free of charge.
  4. Upload your dataset
  5. In case of questions or problems, contact the manager of data centre or UT library
