Library and its services

  • Is the main building of the library (Struve 1) open?

Reading rooms in the main building are open starting from 12 April, but only 100 persons are allowed to be in the library at the same time. The reading rooms are in particular open for the students who are writing their final theses and need the materials that can be used only in the library.

The books requested via ESTER can be still picked up in the Smart Lockers. If you need books quickly, you can come to the library, find the books in the open stacks and borrow them by using the self-service machine.

The library is open from Monday to Friday, 12-19.

  • What other services can be used?

All main library services (borrowing, using Interlibrary Loans, getting answers to your inquiries, accessing databases) and support services (digitizing, self-service printing and photocopying, e-courses, data management) are provided as contact-free services in the library, or on the e-environment.

You can also reserve an individual work room or group work room, but please note that only up to 2 persons can be in this room at the same time.

Borrowing

  • Can I request and borrow the books?

Yes. If you have a valid library card or its equivalent, you can request books which can be borrowed and have the status AVAILABLE in the e-catalogue ESTER. Books can be picked up from the contact-free Smart Locker in lobby of the main building (Struve 1). The lockers can be accessed from Monday to Friday 12-19. Requested books are usually available on the next day.

If you need the books earlier than on the next day, you can come to the library, look for the books yourself in our open stacks and borrow it with the self-service machine. Please request the books for in-house via ESTER, by marking the 3rd floor service point as the place for picking up.

  • How quickly can I get the books that I have requested?

Usually on the next day. After having requested the book via ESTER, wait for an e-mail from the library with the message that the books are waiting for you in the Smart Locker. After receiving the e-mail, you can come and pick up the book, on Mon-Fri, 12-19.

NB! Do not come to the library before you have received this e-mail. Also note that the books that are requested on Friday evening or on weekend will be available on Monday.

  • How long will my requested books be held in the Smart Locker?

The requested books will be held in the locker for 72 h starting from the date of the e-mail (Sat-Sun not included). Please pick up the requested books ASAP to free the locker for next requests.

  • How many books can I request at a time?

Due to the limited size of the locker, you can request up to five (5) books at a time.

  • How can I get the book from the Smart Locker? Who will help me, if I have some problems?

Scan your library card or insert your ID-card into the slot of the locker. Then follow the instructions on the locker’s screen. If you need help, please turn to the librarian at the information point.

  • Taking the coronavirus into consideration – is the use of Smart Lockers safe?

Borrowing via the Smart Lockers is contact-free. Staff members who use masks and protective gloves put the books into the locker. The lockers will be disinfected regularly. Please disinfect your hands before and after using the service, the disinfectants are just beside the Smart Locker. Please keep your distance with other people.
