Exhibition of doctoral theses opened for the 106th anniversary of the national university

Starting from Friday, 28 November, visitors can explore the doctoral theses defended at the University of Tartu in 2025 in the hall on the library’s second floor. All new PhD graduates will be promoted at the anniversary ceremony on 1 December.

This year, 140 doctoral theses were defended at the University of Tartu: 36 in arts and humanities, 17 in social sciences, 30 in medicine, and 57 in science and technology. Most theses were written in English; in the humanities and arts, however, there were 9 in Estonian, 4 in Russian, 1 in Spanish, 1 in French, and 1 in Finnish.

Two doctoral theses were completed under joint supervision agreements, in cooperation with KU Leuven in Belgium and Aalto University in Finland.

In addition to Estonian graduates, new PhD holders also came from various other countries, including the United States, Brazil, Kazakhstan, India, Finland, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, Ukraine, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran, Colombia, Romania, Greece, Russia, and Belarus.

The exhibition is open until 18 December.
