The University of Tartu Library’s 2026 funding call for publishing high-quality research articles with open access remains open, and funding is still available. The grant covers 50% of an article’s publication costs.
To date, the fund has supported the publication of 28 articles. “Publishing articles with open access makes research achievements accessible to a much wider audience of both researchers and the general public,” said Liisi Lembinen, Director of Development at the University of Tartu Library. “The funding provided by the university has therefore been of great help in showcasing our research achievements around the world. We hope that the second half of the year will bring many more interesting articles whose publication we can help support.”
University of Tartu doctoral students and academic staff who are the lead authors of a publication may apply for funding. The article must have received a letter of acceptance from the journal on or after 1 January 2026 and must be published in a Q1 journal that is indexed in Web of Science or Scopus and listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
Funding cannot be requested for articles published in journals issued by MDPI. As an exception, publication in the prestigious journals Nature and Science is supported, provided that all other requirements are met. Each author may receive funding for the publication of up to two articles per year.
Applications may be submitted after receiving a letter of acceptance from the journal and will be accepted until the allocated funds have been exhausted. The application form, detailed conditions and further information are available on the library’s website.
Supported articles are preserved in the University of Tartu digital archive ADA and receive greater visibility through the university’s communication channels. All articles published with the support of this funding measure are also listed on the library’s website.
