The opening hours of subject libraries at university institutes are extended by three more hours
UT Mathematics and Informatics Library and the Library of Social Sciences,as well as the libraries of the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures, the Information Centre at Iuridicum, the Institute of Physics, and Biomedicum are, starting from 3 October, open from Monday to Friday 9.00-20.00.
As most of the subject libraries need to extend their opening hours by three hours, they would also need the help of staff members of the the main library (excluding the Libraries of the Institute of Physics and Biomedicum). The objective of giving additional support to subject libraries is to offer library services at all four faculties and to provide additional learning environment (all in all, work places for 160persons) and consultation in information search.
Starting in October, subject librarians will give information search consultations twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17.00-20.00, at four subject libraries:
- Faculty of Science and Technology at the Mathematics and Informatics Library (J. Liivi 2-521),
- Faculty of Social Sciences at the Social Sciences Library (Lossi 36-316),
- Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures Library (Lossi 3-213)
- Faculty of Medicine at the Biomedicum Library (Ravila 19-1023).
Subject librarians will answer questions about information search and using of research databases. Additional help will also be given in catalogue search and requesting of books.
The network of subject libraries was created in the cooperation of the UT Library staff and University staff members in order to make using subject literature as convenient as possible. Subject library is at the centre of its institute, college or department, it is staffed by specialists. UT Library offers them additional training, helps them in acquiring literature and gives professional advice. UT Library senior specialist Lilia Külv said that a long-time and successful cooperation with subject libraries is based on mutual trust and understanding, this would also help to lessen the inconveniences caused by the main library renovation.
