A travelling exhibition about Pope Francis arrives in the UT Library

08.10.2018

A travelling exhibition “Holy Father Pope Francis” will be opened in the UT Library, providing a survey of the life of Pope Francis until the moment he was elected Pope, also about his main messages. In addition, the exhibition reminds us of the visit of Pope St John Paul II in Tallinn 25 years ago.

The exhibition consists of twelve stands with the texts and photos of the most important events in Pope Francis’s life. The texts are in Estonian and in English.

The exhibition, designed in the official colours of Vatican, consists of three chapters: the life of the Head of the Catholic church (five panels), his message (three panels) and the visit of John Paul II (two panels). The last panel is dedicated to the writings of Pope Francis and his visit to Estonia in September 2018.

The main events of Pope Francis’s life include the immigration of the Bergoglio family to Argentina, the priest’s calling of Jorge Bergoglio, his love for football and tango, also the importance of his personality, his being elected Pope and the changes he introduced to the church, like the call to “move out of the comfort zone” and be open to everyone, particularly to the weaker ones.

The quotations of the Pope which cover the most important topics from his messages, show that he expresses his thoughts in a very simple language which is understood by everyone. His answers to the children’s questions refer to a very deep mindset and great love towards children.

The exhibition invites the visitor to learn more about two extraordinary persons and is a source of inspiration to the values that are promoted by them – mercy, integrated ecology and joy.

The exhibition is organized by the Roman Catholic Apostolic Administration of Estonia.

It will remain open in the UT Library until 22 October.
