Personal identification needed in accessing the UT-public Wi-Fi network
Starting from 1 October, all users need to identify themselves when accessing the Wi-Fi network in UT buildings, including the library.
This requirement proceeds from the contractual obligations with the EENet and its aim is to maintain the security of our computer networks.
Internet use in the buildings of the University of Tartu has been free of charge already for more than 10 years. So far, the visitors were able to use the UT-public network without any personal identification.
When accessing the Wi-Fi network, a person can now be identified via their Facebook or Google account or their phone number or e-mail address. In case of e-mail, the authenticator must provide their telephone number or e-mail and the password will be sent to their mobile phone.
The use of Wi-Fi network remains free of charge.
