14.04.2023

On Wednesday, April 19th at 5:15 pm, Talis Bachmann will present his recently published work "Cognitive Psychology in the Context of Criminal Law" at the University of Tartu Library.

According to the author, the book helps to understand better the hidden mental processes underlying both law-abiding and law-breaking behavior, which are not easily observable. "In this way, future and current legal professionals, as well as experts with specialized knowledge, can improve the quality and fairness of legal decision-making," said Talis Bachmann.

The book is primarily intended for psychology and law graduate and doctoral students, whose main or secondary interest is criminal law, legal and court psychology, cognitive psychology, and expertise. It is also suitable for legal professionals such as judges, lawyers, investigators, and police officers. The book is also suitable for general readers who are interested in the relationship between psychology and law.

The book uses generalized models of mental processes that guide behavior, which highlight the interconnections between various psychological processes. The specialized literature used in creating this educational tool is modern and contains previously untranslated information in Estonian from the years 2019-2022.

The book "Cognitive Psychology in the Context of Criminal Law" is published by the University of Tartu Press. The presentation of the book will take place in the conference center on the 2nd floor.
