If the location of the book in the e-catalogue ESTER is one of the following: UTL 1st Reading Room, UTL 2nd Reading Room, UTL 3rd Reading Room, UTL Law Reading Room, UTL European Documentation Centre, then you can find the book on a shelf in the reading room. Books located in the reading rooms cannot be requested, you need to find them on the shelf yourself. The call number is glued to the back cover of the book.
For example, if you are looking for the book "Tartu Ülikooli Raamatukogu aastaraamat 2010-2021”.
- Find the location in the e-catalogue ESTER. You will see that the book is located in the 3rd reading room;
- Write down the book’s call number 02 T24;
- 02 marks library science;
- T marks the first letter of the author or book title. In this case, the first letter of the book title;
- 24 marks the number under that letter;
- Find the shelf in the reading room that has been marked with the subject field number 02. You can check the location of the shelf in ESTER in the Open Shelves Guide. The shelves you need are marked in red;
- The books are organised on the shelves by languages: Estonian, foreign languages in the Latin alphabet, then foreign languages in Slavic alphabet. Find the letter in the call number (e.g., T) and the necessary number under that (e.g., 24).
