The University of Tartu Library Calendar for 2020 contains works from the art collection of professor Johann Karl Simon Morgenstern (1770–1852). The calendar album is issued to celebrate the 250th birthday of the first director of the UT Library and art museum.

University of Tartu Library and the Estonian DataCite Consortium will hold an international seminar “Open Access – Plans and Choices” at the UT Library Conference Hall (1, W. Struve St.) on 6 November.

An international Open Access Week started today, aiming at attracting everyone to learn more about the research information of the Open Access.

UT Library conitnues with the tradition started in 2010 and offers different opportunities to get more information about the principles of open science. Everyone who is interested in these topics ise welcome to participate in OpenAIRE webinars, which concentrate on the topics related with OA publications, data administration, open access regulations of the program Horizon 2020 and plan S.

The fairy tale wood is open in the exhibition hall of the Library, giving everyone an opportunity to compare the change and development of the text and illustrations of the "Little Red Riding Hood" fairy tale. The texts are taken from the books by brothers Grimm, Ch. Perrault and A. Lang.

On 18 October, the University of Tartu Library will hold the Friedrich Puksoo Day seminar “The Library of the National University 100”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National University of Estonia.

Documents on British Policy Overseas (DBPO) is open for trial until 17 Oktober 2019.

It is a fully searchable collection of primary source documents from Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), shedding light on diplomatic history throughout the 20th C. 

Coverage: 1898 - 1990.

The European Documentation Centre (EDC), located at the University of Tartu Library and containing official documents and publications of the EU, has lately updated its homepage.

UT Library will continue with the guided tours on the week starting with 16 September. During the tours the building and library services are introduced to students. The tours are in Estonian, English and Russian.

On Friday, 06 September, the photo exhibition "Women in Science" was opened on the second floor area of the UT Library. The photos of the L´Oréal Baltic fellowship recipients in 2019 are exhibitied in the exhibition.

On August 15, Krista Aru took up post as the Director of the UT Library. On her first day of work, she met the staff of the library to introduce her vision of the role and development perspectives of the UT Library within the university as well as in Estonia as a whole.

On Friday, 21 June the senate elected Krista Aru to the position of director of the University of Tartu Library.

Candidates for the post of the library director were Liisi Lembinen, Krista Aru and Asko Tamme. The senate admitted that all three were strong candidates and worthy to be elected to the position.

On Monday, 20 May the traditional Night Library will open its doors to all students. During the following two weeks the UT Library will be open on workdays from 9-24 and on weekends 9-21.

„The Night Library has become a part of a student life," said Liisi Lembinen, the acting director of the UT Library. „Twice a year, during the more intensive period of exams and prelims, the students have an opportunity to study in the library until midnight. We hope that our reading rooms and group work rooms will be widely used by the students."
