Warning: phishing scam letters sent to UT Library readers!

Dear reader,

The University of Tartu Library warns its readers and persons related to the University of Tartu in regard to the following phishing scam letters and asks you not to enter your username and/or password to the added web-address. If you find this letter in your mailbox, please ignore it and delete the e-mail immediately.

The content of the scam letter:

Saatja: University of Tartu Library <[email protected]>

Teema: Library Account

Dear User,

Your library account has expired, therefore you must reactivate it immediately or it will be closed automatically. If you intend to use this service in the future, you must take action at once!

To reactivate your account, simply visit the following page and login with your library account.

What is wrong in this letter?

1) Sender’s e-mail address: "[email protected]".

Please note that the official e-mail address of the University of Tartu Library for informing its readers is [email protected]

2) The Ezproxy service of UT Library has no connection to the activation, deactivation or renewal of the users of the UT Library.

Ezproxy service is used only for accessing databases from outside UT computer and only together with the username and password of UT.

Link directs the visitor to the webpage where a fraudulent person collects the data entered to the webpage.

3) If the reader’s account has expired, the UT Library will inform the reader about it when logging into the website www.ester.ee, never via e-mail.
