The theme of this year's Open Access Week which will be held in the week 25-31 October is “It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity.” The University of Tartu Library continues its tradition to introduce opportunities of Open Science by setting up an information desk in the 2nd floor with different materials about Open Science.

Together with the other libraries in the EOD network, the University of Tartu Library offers the digitisation of copyright-free books from its collections collections at a special price of 10 EUR until the end of October.

The books can be found via this link. The books of the University of Tartu Library and Estonian National Library can be requested also directly via online catalogue ESTER, by choosing "Request a digital copy".

In summer, from 28 June to 29 August the library is open on workdays 12-18 and closed on weekends.

On Tuesday, 22 June the library is open 9-12.

23- 27 June the library is closed.

The library is closed also on Friday, 20 August due to the national holidays.

It has been six years since photographer Vincent Tremeau started asking children the question "What do you want to be when you grow up?” whenever he was on assignment overseas. Mostly aged between 6 and 18 years old, the children featured at the exhibition have dressed up to show us who they want to be when they grow up, using costumes and props from their immediate surroundings.

By tapping into each child’s vision for the future, we get a unique glimpse of their current circumstances and challenges - and all this you can see on the photo exhibition "One day I will".

Starting from next Monday, all students preparing for their exams and for their final theses can work at the library until midnight. The Nigh Library, organized together with the UT Student Union, will be open from Monday to Friday 9-24 and on Saturday and Sunday 12-24.

UT Library invites everyone to participate in the contest to find great photos of the library. The event is a part of the big photo contest, announced by the University of Tartu in March. The photos of the library may be taken inside or outside, there may be books or people – just any emotion or moment in the library is very welcome.

Starting from Monday, 10 May the UT Library is open on regular hours. Up to 250 readers are allowed to study in the library at the same time.

The library is open on workdays 9-21 and Saturday and Sunday 12-18.

RARA reading room on the second floor is open from Monday till Friday 10-19, on Saturday 12-18, the Music Department on workdays 9-19 and on Saturday 12-18.

Group work rooms can also be booked online (free for UT students and lecturers), but one should take into account that, no matter how large the room is, only two persons can use it at the same time.

Due to the situation regarding the spread of coronavirus, up to 100 persons are presently allowed to study at the same time in the reading rooms of UT Library. The real time number of visitors present in the building can be seen on the library’s website.

Group work rooms can also be booked online, but you should take into account that, no matter how large the room is, only two persons can use it at the same time.

An online platform named Collected Courses of the Hague Academy of International Law is open for trial, which lasts until 2th June.

Courses at the Hague Academy are published in the Collected Courses, the Academy’s flagship collection. These contributions by prestigious authors deal with the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject, including legislation and case law.

Starting from Monday, 12 April, a limited number of people will be allowed to study in the Univerity of Tarty (UT) Library reading rooms. This opportunity is primarily meant for students who are writing their theses and need materials that can be used only in the library. People who have rented a private work room can also come to the library from Monday.

  1. Find a book in the e-catalogue ESTER (www.ester.ee) and check whether the book can be borrowed and its status is AVAILABLE.

  2. Request the book from the e-catalogue by using the button REQUEST. Mark the ‘Smart Locker in the lobby’ as the pick-up location.

  3. Due to the limited size of the lockers, you can request up to five (5) books at a time. The due date in the emergency situation will be set starting from 12 April.

Related to the extensive restrictions all over Estonia to stop the spread of coronavirus, the University of Tartu Library will be closed from 11 March to 11 April. Books can be still borrowed for use at home and returned during this period.

Due to the increasing risk of coronavirus and nationwide restrictions, the library can have up to one hundred visitors at a time from Monday, 1 March.  The number of visitors in the building can be seen in real time on the library’s website.

“We are doing everything we can right now to avoid closing the library completely,” said Krista Aru, Director of the UT Library. “Of course, it is essential that only people who are healthy and wear a mask come to the library. I therefore once again urge all our readers to follow that rule.”

Friedrich Puksoo Prize 2020 was awarded to the catalogue With Work and Devotion. 500 years from the birth of the most famous publisher of the Netherlands Christophe Plantin, compiled by Ülle Mölder, Janika Päll and Kaspar Kolk and designed by Lilian Mengel.  The catalogue is accompanied by the online exhibition under the same title.
