CAELUM

CAELUM (Open science supporting vulnerable communities: empowering university libraries in crisis response) is an Erasmus+ project (2024-1-EE01-KA220-HED-000243324) launched in 2025. Its aim is to strengthen the role of academic libraries in preventing and mitigating crises through the use of open science tools and methodologies.

Across Europe, educational and research institutions are facing increasingly complex crises — from wars and migration challenges to climate emergencies, mental health issues, and information disorder. University libraries are in a unique position to provide trustworthy support, access to knowledge, and a safe environment for vulnerable communities in such situations.

Through a variety of activities, CAELUM seeks to enhance librarians’ skills in responding to crises using innovative and interdisciplinary approaches, while also promoting open science and citizen science among university members.
