Exhibition “Bivalent” Will Open in UT Library

On Thursday, 8 November, the artist Kaire Nurk will open an exhibition of her paintings “Bivalent” in the second floor lobby of the UT Library.

“Bivalent” brings together the paintings the artist made during her Master’s studies at the University of Tartu and the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2015-2017, and the works she had created as a professional artist before starting her studies.

The period preceding her Master’s studies could be characterised by the word ‘monochrome’. When making the monochromic paintings, the artist had always aspired to achieve wholeness and completeness in her works.

During her Master’s studies Kaire Nurk concentrated on experiments. Her credo was not to make repeated versions of her the paintings, but to create as different and spontaneous solutions as possible and to test different techniques.

The title “Bivalent” refers to a complicated relation between the experiment and monochrome.

The exhibition of Kaire Nurk’s paintings in the 2nd floor lobby of the UT Library will be open until 28 December.
