From October 21 to 27, the annual Open Access Week will take place, with the goal of increasing the use and publication of open access scholarly research information worldwide. During this week, information desks will be available at the university library, as well as in the libraries of the Estonian University of Life Sciences and Taltech, where readers can get useful information about the opportunities and services related to open science. Additionally, there will be various trainings and seminars, both online and in person.
Starting from September 26, the computers intended for general use by readers will be located in the big hall on the second floor.
The rearrangement of computer placement is due to the increased need for group workspaces among students. Since most people studying and working in the library have their own laptops, a significant number of the public computer stations were mostly unused.
On Thursday, September 19th at 4 p.m, an exhibition titled “The Player Takes the Chords” will open on the 3rd floor of the university library to celebrate the 100th anniversary of artist Lembit Saarts' birth.
In anticipation of International Music Day, the library will be filled with music. On Saturday, September 28th, a conference “Home and Abroad” will be held in collaboration with Psühhoteek for vinyl enthusiasts and music lovers. Additionally, an exhibition by Andres Karro titled “Record Sleeves of the Estonian Diaspora” will be opened, followed by a popular record fair on Sunday, welcoming everyone.
From September 23 to October 18, members of the University of Tartu will have the opportunity to try the Scopus AI tool in the Scopus database.
Scopus AI is a search tool powered by generative AI (GenAI). It uses natural language processing, which means that instead of using keywords or Boolean operators, you can type your question, statement, or hypothesis in everyday language into the search box. Scopus AI analyzes the abstracts of articles and creates summaries from them, including references to the used documents.
From September 2nd to October 13th, the exhibition "Letters from Estonia" by French photographer and film director Raphaël Gianelli-Meriano will be presented in the exhibition area of Tartu University Library. The exhibition features visual captures from the photographer's visits to Estonia over the past 20 years. It is a collection of moments reflecting his relationship with the country and its people, and ultimately, his own life.

Dear readers!
Due to the national holiday, the library is closed on Monday, 19 August and Tuesday, 20 August.
Happy Day of Restoration of Independence!
On Monday, July 22, starting from 2:00 PM, there will be a 4-6 hour interruption in the ESTER e-catalogue. During this time, it will not be possible to order books or due dates renewed via My ESTER. Neither the selv-service machines nor book return machine can be used.
It will be possible to borrow books from reading rooms and open stacks through the assistance of library staff. Books can be returned to the return box in the lobby or directly to a librarian.
The University of Tartu Library will be open that day from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Renovation work began in the library lobby on the first days of June, aiming to make the first floor more visitor-friendly, cozy and functional. The renewal of the lobby interior is planned to be completed by beginning of August.
