Library hosts conference and record fair, organised by Psühhoteek

In anticipation of International Music Day, the library will be filled with music. On Saturday, September 28th, a conference “Home and Abroad” will be held in collaboration with Psühhoteek for vinyl enthusiasts and music lovers. Additionally, an exhibition by Andres Karro titled “Record Sleeves of the Estonian Diaspora” will be opened, followed by a popular record fair on Sunday, welcoming everyone.

The conference will take place for the tenth time this year and for the second consecutive year in the music section of the university library. This year's conference, “Home and Abroad,” marks the 80th anniversary of the great escape of 1944 and focuses on the music of the Estonian diaspora—who made it, where, how, and how this music spread. Speakers include Vaiko Eplik and Maarja Merivoo-Parro, among others.

On Saturday at 4 p.m., music enthusiast Andres Karro's exhibition of Estonian diaspora vinyl record covers will open in the music section. “Estonian diaspora vinyls have a special place on my record shelf. They are fascinating and often difficult to acquire; one needs contacts and sometimes just luck to get hold of rarer records,” admitted Karro. Now, he brings a selection of these to the exhibition.

On Sunday at 12 p.m., the library lobby will open its doors to an international record fair. Over 20 participants from Estonia and neighboring countries will showcase their collections, filling more than 50 meters of display space. Music lovers are welcome to browse and select records until 4 p.m.
