In cooperation with its partners the publisher De Gruyter offers a free access to the University of Tartu Library to more than 115 e-books and 13 articles about the history of Europe, international relations, law, modern history, politology, Slavic literature and sociology to assist everyone who is looking for background information about Ukraine and Russia and the ongoing war.
Free access to the e-books and articles of thirteen academic publishers is available until 30 June 2022.
Due to Easter Weekend holidays, the library is closed from 15 to 17 April.
In the UT Library the room Ukraine with more than 40 books in the Ukrainian language was opened on Monday. One can study or read books, kids can play with the toys or draw in the room which is located in the rear part of the second floor reading room.
The exhibition "From a word to a picture" by the Finnish fashion photographer Elina Simonen is open in the second floor lobby of the library. The photos are supplemented by the poetry texts that were a source of inspiration for the pictures.
The exhibition „Juri Lotman – a professor of the University of Tartu“ was opened in the UT Library to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the well-known semiotician and cultural historian. In addition to the books and manuscripts several works of art are exhibited.
The exhibition by Frey features abstract oil paintings created in 2021, depicting untouched primeval forests and landscapes.
The exhibition „Education for all – the Legacy of Johannes Amos Comenius to the World“ is open on the second floor of the UT Library.
The UT Library compiled a list of news portals and social media pages that are reliable channels regarding the news of Ukraine.
The UT Library building, which was opened in 1982, celebrates its 40th birthday today. Designed by the architects Kalju Valdre and Mart Kalling in the neo-functionalist style, the building immediately became the students’ most favourite place to study.

Due to the anniversary of the Repubilc of Estonia, the library is closed on 24 and 25 February. On 23 February the library is open 9-12.
University of Tartu Library was founded 220 years ago, in 1802. The Library’s birthday will be celebrated with a number of events through the whole year of 2022. All through the year, people can also gift the library with books which the library needs but does not have.
On the second floor exhibition area, a photo gallery of Ningbo, the partner city of Tartu can be viewed.
Tartu and Ningbo, the city with more than 4 million inhabitants in the eastern part of China, celebrated the 10th anniversary of partnership. The photo exhibition introduces us the city, its culture and people who live there.
Night Library which is open until late hours will start on the third day of January.
„For years, the Night Library has been a convenient place to study," said the Head of the Service Department Olga Einasto. „The reading rooms, social area, private and group work rooms are ideal for concentrating on the studies. In addition, necessary literature is available on the shelves. And whenever you need make pauses, one can enjoy our exhibitions all over the library."
Due to the COVID restrictions this time the Night Library is open only until 23.
Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Climate Science is accessible via UT computer network.
Encyclopedia covers climate researches in different aspects and it is regularly updated.
University of Tartu Library celebrates the 102th anniversary of the Estonian national university with the exhibition of 106 doctoral theses, defended in 2021. Electronic versions of the dissertations are accessible for all via the UT digital archive DSpace.

Due to the celebration of the 102nd anniversary of the University of Tartu on 1 December, the library is open 9-12.
On 18 November the University of Tartu Library and DataCite Estonia Consortium in collaboration with FAIRsFAIR invite everyone who is interested to follow a programme with several FAIR elements. FAIRsFAIR aims to supply practical solutions for the use of the FAIR data principles, such as tools for raising awareness about FAIR or even measuring the level of FAIRness.
Exhibition “Life on the Front Page. Estonian Newspapers 1821-2021” was opened in the exhibition hall of the University of Tartu Library on 12 October. The exposition marks the 200th anniversary the Estonian-language journalism, showing its changing face with 231 front pages of 77 newspapers, published in Estonia, America, Russia, Sweden and Australia.
