An exhibition showcasing the doctoral theses defended at the University of Tartu in 2024 is now open in the library’s great hall on the second floor.
This year, 131 doctoral theses were defended at the University of Tartu, including 29 in the humanities, 19 in social sciences, 18 in medical and sports sciences, and 65 in natural sciences. Nine theses were written in Estonian, 121 in English, and one in Russian. Four doctoral theses – two in the humanities, one in the medical field, and one in the natural sciences – were completed through international joint supervision agreements between the University of Tartu and, respectively, KU Leuven in Belgium, the University of Turin in Italy, the University of Oulu in Finland, and the University of Caen Normandy in France.
“The doctoral thesis exhibition is a great opportunity to get a quick overview of the research being conducted at our university,” said Jaanika Anderson, the director of the library. “I hope that today’s students, many of whom will become researchers in the future, will find inspiration and a sense of the boundless nature of science as they browse through the works.”
The University of Tartu’s doctoral diploma is highly respected in the global academic community. This year’s doctoral graduates come from 25 different countries: Armenia, Belgium, Brazil, Egypt, Ghana, China, Spain, the Netherlands, India, Iran, Italy, Yemen, Canada, Colombia, Lithuania, Latvia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Finland, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Russia, and Vietnam.
The exhibition will be open from November 26 to December 20.
