Bibliophile Peeter Tulviste - Student songbooks

As a patriot of the University of Tartu, Peeter Tulviste held the university’s history in particularly high regard. As an alumnus of the Estonian Students’ Society (EÜS), the different facets of student life were of great importance to him. His shelves contain issues of the Tsarist-era students’ newspaper Üliõpilaste Leht, edited by Villem Grünthal-Ridala, and later volumes. Tulviste’s last in-depth presentation at the Tartu Bibliophiles’ Club gave an overview of writings by members of the Estonian Students’ Society and those written about them. When talking about student activities, he passed around not only EÜS publications but also student songbooks. One of his shelves is filled with a large number of student songbooks, both new and earlier German-language editions. The selection on display represents only a small part of his rich collection. The songbook gifted by the Corporation Filiae Patriae features a notable dedication to Professor Peeter Tulviste, dated 9 April 2001. As it often happens, interesting items sometimes find their way to collectors on their own.
