Last October, the university library's music department hosted its first-ever music listening evening, initiated by musician and composer Kadri Voorand, who is also a professor of liberal arts at the university. These shared music listening sessions have since become a delightful Tuesday evening tradition, offering both emotional experiences and new insights into musicians and their work.
According to Kadri Voorand, listening to music—without interruptions, not as background noise for movement or conversation—is pure therapy. "My idea is that everyone who wants to enjoy this should gather at the library, where every Tuesday, different Estonian musicians select an album for us to listen to together," she said. The identity of the album selector and the music to be played remain a secret until the event begins.
The listening sessions are open not only to those attending Kadri Voorand’s lectures but also to anyone interested in discovering new musical works. If enough music lovers take part, the tradition will continue even if the liberal arts professor changes in the new academic year.
All music enthusiasts are welcome every Tuesday at 6:15 PM in the music department on the third floor, where the evening’s album will be revealed and enjoyed together.
