Doctoral students can register to the e-course Research Data Management and Publishing” LTOM.00.007 until the 2th of  March.

The online course gives knowledge of the main principles of Open Science and Open Access and the importance of planning and managing research data in the FAIR manner.

Doctoral students can register to the e-course “Introduction to Information Research” OIAO.06.051 until the 5th of February.

The online course gives knowledge and practical skills in searching for and managing research information and research data. The course is supervised by the UT Library subject librarians.

After a couple of years, the traditional winter seminar of memory institutions, organised by the University of Tartu Library, will again be held at the Kääriku Sports Centre. The seminar, focusing on sustainable development and ecological footprints of memory institutions, will take place on 7-8 March.

UT Library invites its readers to visit the digital archive DSpace and find materials for studying and research, as well as the collections of general interest. DSpace is a repository for all electronic materials, including e-theses and e-publications, and digitised theses, books, manuscripts and images, etc. At present, it contains more than 80 000 objects.

Therapy dogs from the Estonian Association of Assistance and Therapy Dogs traditionally visit the night library. The readers can meet the first dogs already today.

For the library, the new will start with the Night Library which lasts for two weeks. During this period the library is open until midnight.

„We really start already on the second day of January,” said the head of the service department of UT Library Olga Einasto. „We know from previous years, that the prepration for the exams starts on the first days of the year. The reading rooms and group work rooms here are ideal for concentration, so we really hope that many students will come to the library to study."

The traditional Christmas Fair takes place on Friday, 9 December in the first floor lobby of the UT Library.  This year the fair is organised together with Tartu Folk High School.

„After two years we can again invite people to the Christmas fair,“ said the Communication Manager of UT Library Herdis Olmaru. „As we have had several projects with the Folk High School recently, it seemed a good idea to cooperate for this event as well.“

The UT Library 2023 year calendar presents a selection of flower images, which were used as models in the classes of the University of Tartu Drawing School in the 19th century. Such pictures were used as examples when students of natural sciences and medicine, as well as hobby artists, were practicing drawing.

The University of Tartu Library calls on all researchers, postgraduates and master’s students to preserve their scientific posters, presented at research conferences, by uploading them into the UT digital repository in DSpace. The library wishes to set up a new good practice of keeping all scientific posters in a single open access digital archive.

On the 3rd floor of the library, the exhibition „Nikolai Jasnetski – restorer and artist“ will be opened on Thursday, 20 October. The paintings that are exhibited were given as a present to the Gallery of Discoveries by the daughter of Jasnetski in March 2022.

The University of Tartu Library participates in the international Open Access Week to introduce and increase the use and access to the results of scholarly research. This year’s theme “Open for climate justice" seeks to encourage connection and collaboration among the climate movement and the international open community.

In addition to the UT Library, the information desks to introduce open science have been set up also in the libraries of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Tallinn University of Technology and Tallinn University.

Acland's Video Atlas of Human Anatomy contains videos of human anatomy specimens.

LWW Health Library Medical Education is an interactive online access platform to key Lippincott textbooks.

From 1 October the prices of some library services have been updated.

The rent for the private work rooms is now 10 EUR per day, 17 EUR per week and 30 EUR per month. The discount price is for the employees of the UT structural units.

In processing fee for a lost book (to be paid in addition to the price of the lost item) is 10 EUR. The basis price for the digital copy of print quality is 5 EUR.

The use of the shower room on the 3rd floor of the library is from now for fee which is 4.80 EUR

UT Library invites students to participate in the course “Fundamentals of Information Literacy” (OIAO.06.050, 3 ECTS) which takes place from 26 September until 20 November 2022. 

Students of all specialities who want to acquire knowledge and skills needed for systematic information search, reference management and information evaluation are welcome to participate. The course is suitable for the beginners as well as more advanced level, no prior knowledge in information search is expected.

From 1 until 30 September all books in the UT Library e-bookstore are reduced 20%.

One can pay for the purchase via bank link or with the credit card. The payment for the orders can be made via Swedbank, SEB, LHV, Luminor and Citadele bank links and with the credit card.

The opening hours in summer 2022:

starting from June 20 the library is on Mon-Fri open 12-18, closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
