Krista Aru Elected as the Director of UT Library
On Friday, 21 June the senate elected Krista Aru to the position of director of the University of Tartu Library. Candidates for the post of the library director were Liisi Lembinen, Krista Aru and Asko Tamme. The senate admitted that all three were strong candidates and worthy to be elected to the position.

Night Library Will Open on 20 May
On Monday, 20 May the traditional Night Library will open its doors to all students. During the following two weeks the UT Library will be open on workdays from 9-24 and on weekends 9-21. „The Night Library has become a part of a student life," said Liisi Lembinen, the acting director of the UT Library. „Twice a year, during the more intensive period of exams and prelims, the students have an opportunity to study in the library until midnight. We hope that our reading rooms and group work rooms will be widely used by the students."

On Easter Holidays the UT Library is closed on Friday, 19 April and Sunday, 21 April. On Saturday, 20 April the library is open from 12 until 18.

UT Library Organises Seminar on Research Data
The University of Tartu Library in cooperation with DataCite Estonia will hold the international seminar „FAIR Data – the Key to Sustainable Research“ in the UT Library (W. Struve 1) on 9 and 10 April. „As in previous years, we are organising the seminar on research data management and usage this year as well,“ said Lilian Neerut, the head of the Department of Subject Librarians. “Researchers, postgraduates, funders and research administrators, as well as other people interested in the topics of research data, are welcome to participate in this seminar.“

Rarities of Astronomy Displayed at New Exhibition
On 19 March, the exhibition "Rarities of Astronomy" was opened in the UT Library, displaying the most valuable part of the historical books and documents that arrived in the library from Tartu Observatory in the end of the previous year.

Traditional Winter Seminar of Memory Institutions Concentrates on Open and Linked Data
The traditional two-day winter seminar of memory institutions, organised by the UT Library, will take place on 6-7 March at Kääriku. The focus of this year's seminar will be on the topics of open and linked data. The second half of the first day will be concentrating on design thinking. On the second day of the seminar the participants will have a chance to share their experience on different subjects related to the development of memory institutions.

An Exhibition of Maire and Alo Aarsalu Works Opened in the Library
The exhibition „Etudes“ by Maire and Alo Aarsalu is now open in the third floor lobby of the UT Library. Alo Aarsalu works include mainly compositions, while paintings of Maire Aarsalu are from nature. Both artists have said that they were inspired by colors and composition. Therefore, they did not consider it important to specify the titles of the paintings. Maire Aarsalu has studied art and painting in the University of Tartu, her husband Alo in Konrad Mägi Atelier.

A Photo Exhibition of the UT Scientists and Lecturers Opened in the Libary
On Tuesday, January 8 an exhibition „Get ready! A hundred faces of the University of Tartu“ was opened on the second floor exhibition area of the library. In 2017, one of the best-known portrait photographers in Estonia, Birgit Püve, captured one hundred outstanding scientists and lecturers from the University of Tartu with an object reflecting their work or relationship with the university.

Reopening of the UT Library selected as the Deed of the Year 2018 of the University of Tartu
At the Rector’s New Year’s reception on 2 January, staff members of the university selected the reopening of the UT Library after renovations as the Deed of the Year 2018 The top three nominations for the Deed of the Year title were announced at the reception.
