ID-card and Mobile-ID can now be used in registering as a user of the library and entering online catalogue ESTER.

On November 8, 2017 RDA Estonia and UT Library organize a seminar “RDA Meets Estonian Researchers”. The Estonian research communities, researchers in general, policy makers in open access to data, open science enablers and the re-use of research data champions are invited to join and discuss technological as well as sociological matters around the re-use of research data on the national, European and global levels. Event is free of charge but pre-registration is necessary.

On Monday University of Tartu Library opened an information point in the ground floor of the main building of the university. In the information point students will receive information about the library services. It is also possible to register oneself as a user of the library.

On Monday, 7 August 2017, the University of Tartu and AS Ehitustrust and OÜ Tallinna Ehitustrust, who won the public procurement for the library reconstruction works, signed a contract, according to which all construction works on the building must be completed by 9 January 2019. AS Ehitustrust starts with the necessary demolition works on the site next week.

Until the end of December 2017 Future Medicine Journals are available for trial. The database contains 28 journals from the fields of clinical and translational medicine and biosciences. On Monday, July 31 UT Library will open the pop-up reading rooms in the former building of the Estonian National Museum (Veski str. 32). There is enough room for these who want to study as well as for group works.

4 offers were made for the tender for finishing the construction work of the University of Tartu Library. The winner of the public tender was AS Ehitustrust and OÜ Tallinna Ehitustrust, which made a joint offer in the amount of 5.75 million euros (plus VAT).

Use of Library

This week the University of Tartu Library celebrates its 215th anniversary. On Tuesday, 20 June a festive event will be held for the staff members and guests at the Fraternity Rotalia. The real birthday of the University of Tartu Library is actually on 23 June, as the first entry to the diary of loans was made on this date in the year 1802. The library started with 4000 books, now this number has reached 4 million.

Dear readers, In June there are the following changes in the opening hours of the library: 20 June – open from 9-17 (due to the celebration of 215th anniversary of the library) 22 June - open 9-12 23-25 June – closed. 26-30 June - pop-up reading rooms open 9-19.

From 31 May to 30 June, UT Library will offer used books to everybody for free. Books are on the shelves in the library back entrance lobby (Akadeemia Street entrance).

On 23 May 2017, the University of Tartu announced a public procurement to resume the stalled reconstruction works in the library. Vice Rector for Development Erik Puura says the university has decided that the works are carried out in phases, like in the previous procurement for construction works.

On 22 May, the UT Library will open its traditional Night Library at the pop-up reading rooms on J. Liivi Street. During two weeks the Night Library will work from Monday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. until midnight.

Until the end of the spring exam period, the pop-up reading rooms and group work rooms are open on J. Liivi Street. In August, the temporary reading rooms will be opened in a new location – 32 Veski Street.
