The UT Library calendar for 2021 shows examples of marbled paper, made with the marbling technique, which has already for centuries been used to decorate books.

The traditional OpenAIRE week will this year be held from 20 to 23 October, inviting researchers, post-graduates, administrators of research projects, librarians and everyone else who is interested in the progress of open science to participate in different webinars which focus on establishing the participatory environment for academic cooperation.

UT Library will continue the service, started in January, which offers the UT users the possibility to return books borrowed from any UT subject library or the main library to any library in the UT Library network.

On 24 September, the exhibition “Tartu Classicist” was opened in the University of Tartu Library to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its first director Johann Karl Simon Morgenstern. The exhibition displays a selection of documents, books and works of art from the library collections related to Morgenstern.

On Wednesday, 30 September a RDA Estonia National Event Opening Minds and Digital Collections: Digital Humanities Seminar will take place in the UT Library. The event will be organized by Estonian RDA Node and DataCite Estonia Consortsium. The online seminar "Opening Minds and Digital Collections" aims to strengthen the connection between arts and humanities researchers and digital practices, using open resources of cultural heritage (libraries, archives, repositories, etc.) as the main example.

On Tuesday, 22 September the popular adventurous game "Hunger Games" will take place in the open stacks of the library. The game is one of the events in the programme of Tartu Students Days which last from Monday till Sunday.

The exhibition “The Magical World of Harry Potter” in the UT Library offers a joy of recognition and discovery to all fans of the famous literary character. The exhibition was prepared in cooperation with students of the Tartu Art College.

Dear readers! Due to the celebration of the 218th anniversary of the UT Library on Thursday, 24 September, the library is open until 14.

From 07 September until 07 October all books in the renewed UT Library e-bookstore are reduced 20%. Additionally, the clients can now pay for the books via bank link or with the credit card. On Friday, 28 August, the University of Tartu Library and the University of Tartu Art Museum will jointly celebrate the 250th birthday of Johann Karl Simon Morgenstern, the founder of both the Art Museum and the Library of the University of Tartu, the professor of rhetoric, classical philology, aesthetics and history of literature and art. This day, the restored monument to Karl Morgenstern will be opened on Toomemägi, and free tours will take people to places related with Morgenstern’s life and work. A memorial ceremony will be held at the Raadi Cemetery.

The 3rd floor reading rooms and open stacks are again open from Monday, 1 June. Until 28 June the library will be open at regular opening hours. To borrow books picked up from these areas, the readers should use the self-checkers or go to the 2nd or 3rd floor service points. If the reader cannot/do not want to go to the open stacks at the moment, the library service staff will exceptionally bring books out for you if they are requested via the e-catalogue ESTER.

Dear readers! On Sunday, 31 May the UT Library is closed due to the national holiday.

Starting from 25 May, the second hall reading room of the UT Library will again be open from Monday to Friday from 9-21, and on Saturday 12-18. On Sunday, 31 May the library is closed due to the public holiday. The reading room of manuscripts and rare books is open from Monday until Friday 10-19, on Saturday 12-18.

UT Library opens the 2nd floor reading rooms for the students on Monday, 18 May to offer a pleasant learning environment. The desks are placed according to the 2+2 rule and other safety requirements. As a result, 100 students can study in this area. Online number of the visitors in the library can be seen on the library's webpage.

Information Technology Foundation for Education (ITFE) announced the recipients of the e-course quality label in 2020; among others, this acknowledgement was awarded to the online course “Research Data Management and Publication”, created by the UT Library and the UT Natural History Museum. The e-course was authored by Tiiu Tarkpea from the UT Library and Urmas Kõljalg, Allar Zirk and Veljo Runnel from the Natural History Museum.
