On Thursday, 10 May at 5pm, the photo exhibition “SEQUENCES” will be opened at the University of Tartu Library. The exhibition grew out from the students’ works at the lecture series “Wild Aesthetics or How to Describe the Forest to Digital Hares” led by Peeter Laurits, the photo artist and University of Tartu Professor of Liberal Arts.

The pop-up reading rooms on Veski Street, where the students could study and prepare for their exams since last summer, will be closed today. The library will open on this Wednesday and reading rooms at a separate location have fulfilled their purpose.

The first stage of the UT Library renovation has been completed and parts of the building will be opened for readers on 25 April at 12.00. Although the renovation of the library will continue, students will soon be able to prepare for their spring exams in the new environment.

Biographical reference book Lexikon der Studenten aus Estland, Livland und Kuraland an Europäischen Universitäten 1561-1800, discussing the learning mobility of students coming from the Baltic area, was recently published and a copy of the book has just been added to the collections of the UT Library.

The traditional two-day Winter Seminar of memory institutions that takes place on March 13 and 14, organised by the UT Library, focuses on data protection and relevant legislation. As a tradition, the meeting place is Kääriku.

The unpacking and re-shelving of books in the newly renovated library stacks has already started and the UT Library invites its university staff members and students to volunteer in the cleaning of books.

Starting from 1 March, the UT Library will provide a new service for students who are writing their final theses. The service is in the form of personal consultations, given by the specialists of the Service Department and the Department of Subject Librarians.

Starting from today, the UT Library will daily upload the digitised version of the newspaper Postimees, which was published on that day 100 years ago. This is a gift from the library for the 100th birthday of the Republic of Estonia.

When making a purchase in the e-bookshop of UT Library, you can now order it to be sent to Omniva or Itella parcel machines. „E-shops are becoming more and more popular and thus, the number of purchases in our e-shop is increasing all the time," told Kristhel Haak who is responsible for the orders in the e-shop. „Now the client can choose the parcel machine the location of which suits him or her best and we will send the book(s) there."

Collaboration between the University of Tartu Library and the Estonian National Library has resulted in a new language resource, making accessible the frequency lists of n-grams which were created on the basis of newer Estonian works of fiction. The resource includes both the lists of n-grams as they appear in the texts and as lemma n-grams.

On 2 January, UT Library will open its traditional Night Library in the pop-up reading rooms on Veski Street. Night Library welcomes the students from Monday till Sunday, from 9 a.m. until midnight.

Due to the 98-th anniversary of the University of Tartu on Friday, 1 December, UT Library and pop-up reading rooms (Veski str 32) are open 9-12.

Dear readers! Due to the renovation works the books that are requested on Friday, 17 November and Saturday, 18 November will be available for picking up on Monday, 20 November. The service point in the main building of the library (Struve 1) is open on Friday 9-19 and Saturday 12-16 and all books requested earlier will be available for picking up on time.
